Trigger finger

It is a condition caused by excessive use of the hands and fingers, where the tendons and pulleys that bend the fingers become inflamed and thickened. This results in pain and a snapping sensation (clicking) when moving the fingers.

In the early stages of the condition, improvement can be achieved with treatments such as medication or injections. However, if symptoms do not improve with conservative treatment, it is important to undergo surgical treatment before the finger joints become stiff due to arthritis or deformities, as this can significantly impact the progression and prognosis of the condition.

In traditional open surgery, the process involves skin incisions and post-operative pain, which often results in a long recovery time, causing many patients to hesitate about undergoing the procedure.

In the case of the non-incisional ligament release surgery using Smartwire, the procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance using a specialized medical device (Smartwire). This non-incisional approach helps significantly address the issues associated with skin incisions.

Non-Incisional Smart Ligament Release
Skin Incision No
Anesthesia Simple local anesthesia
Hospitalization Same-day discharge possible
Hand washing Possible after 3 days*
Daily activities Possible right after surgery*

* The recovery time and progress after surgery may vary depending on the patient's condition.

Q&A

Generally, pain that significantly interferes with daily life is rare. However, if the symptoms have been persistent for a long time, leading to conditions such as arthritis or poor tendon health, the recovery period after surgery may be relatively longer. In such cases, post-surgical management and appropriate follow-up treatment are important.

It depends on the patient's condition, but generally, it takes about 15 minutes per finger.

Surgery is possible for almost all cases of trigger finger. In very rare cases, if there is severe joint contracture or tendon damage in the finger, an open surgery may be required.

Find a treatment hospital

Hospitals that have successfully completed the non-incisional Smart Ligament Release Workshop, organized by the Korean Society of Minimally Invasive Pain Medicine, and have medical staff with a certain level of procedure experience, are registered as treatment hospitals.
